Willow Mountain Mushrooms
Bob will have our mushrooms: Ports, Buttons, Shiitake, and Oyster (limited). As usual, for the best selection you might want to get there before 9:30/10 am. He will be there by 7am.
Bob's Veggie Builder Plus is available.
I am offering our organically raised Heirloom Tomato plants again this Saturday. We don't have many left. I am offering 4 plants for $5 or 8 plants for $10. With the 8 plants for $10 you also get a free bag of Veggie Builder if there is any left at the stand. I highly suggest that if you would like to take advantage of the 8 plants with Free Veggie Builder you either email me today before 9pm with which plants you are wanting and approximate time you will be there or you come extra early - probably before 8:30 am as Veggie Builder goes quite fast.
Heirloom Tomatoes still available. I will be taking inventory today and posting what we have left. Please check our website for descriptions, pics and complete list.
I am offering our Castor Bean and Rhubarb plants for $2 each. Bob sold out on Wednesday with what I sent with him. There are not many left.
recap from Wed. Market post:
One other thing that we like about them is that the predator wasp enjoy living on them. They seem to be just resting and getting shade and then go out to work at the tomato plants killing the tomato horn worms and also the potato bugs! We have a hedge around the south and west of our main garden this year. This is a poisonous plant. Both leaves and the plentiful seeds are poisonous. It seems that the farm animals are well aware of this and don't bother the plants. I have noted that the deer avoid it too.
The leaf of the Rhubarb is also poisonous and the deer and other wildlife avoid it as well. Though chickens will scratch it up... yes, sadly my 4 yr old plants perished in that way over the winter. It does best in afternoon shade in our climate. Though it will grow in full sun it will flourish in part shade. The plants I am offering will start to give you a nice harvest next year, however I wouldn't doubt that you may be able to get something off of them this fall given the proper location and soil. They are growing quite well in the Veggie Builder and peat neutralized with a little lime mix that I have them in now.
Today's Recipe is from Troy Brown's Portabella Cookbook
- Heat skillet and saute' the onions in butter or oil until transparent and golden in color. Set aside.
- In another saucepan, create thickening mixture by saute'ing flour in a small amount of butter over medium heat until brown then slowly pouring milk into pan.
- In a large pot remaining ingredients (broth, peas, carrots, parsley, mushrooms, and half and half). Add thickening sauce from step 2. And saute'ed onions. Cook over low heat for 1 to 1.5 hours. Serves 6
Have a Great Weekend!
