Agaricus Growing Instructions

Please take special note that the instructions we have pictured below and the YouTube video instructions were created when we offered one size of the agaricus kit, our original - standard sized 12" x 12" x 6" White Button and Portabella/Baby Bella kits.

We added the mini agaricus kit which is 9" x 9" x 5" in Spring 2025. The instructions are identical for both sizes aside from the amount of water that you add to the dry casing mixture.

For the standard kit you will be adding a total of 4 cups of water to the dry casing material before applying it to the surface of the substrate block within the box. To do this we ask you to add 2 cups, mix it in and then add the second 2 cups and allow to rest so it can absorb all the moisture for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight.

For the MINI Agaricus (button or portabella) kits that water amount is halved. You add 1 cup, mix it in, then add the second cup, mix in for a total of 2 cups of water. Then allow the casing mixture to rest for 2 hours or overnight before applying it to the surface of the substrate block within the box.

If you have any questions please feel free to send an email to us at ShroomShack@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing your results!

We also have a video to help create a micro environment for the kit. It demonstrates how to use a tote or cardboard box to help maintain a temperature of 65-68 degrees during hot weather and the high humidity that the mushrooms prefer. It is entitled "Build a growing chamber..."
